Qingdao to Qufu USD$ 280.00

This sector starts in the afternoon after you meet your Dragon Bus guide, and perhaps some of the other travellers at the hostel. Tonight set off exploring the famous Qingdao "Beer" Street and its nightlife. The famous Laoshan Mountain is a good choice for your second day by jumping on our optional day trip. The water from Laoshan is used exclusively to make China's most famous beer, named Tsingtao, the former name of the now Qingdao. On return from the mountain we'll take in the official tour of the originally German built Qingdao Beer Factory before returning to the hostel.

Leaving Qingdao we visit the seaside city of Rizhao, where its lunch. After lunch we'll make our way from the sea through the mountains to Qufu, the home town of Confucius. On arrival, you'll have enough time to start exploring this classic Chinese city, including the Confucius Temple, Mansion and Tomb of this renowned man before enjoying a courtyard BBQ at the hostel.

Day 2 - Qingdao

A day to do as you please, however, if you missed yesterday's tour of the originally German built Qingdao Beer Factory, you could consider this heading out on your own as Qingdao is a great city to explore on foot. "Old Qingdao" as part of the former German concession is rich in history and with beautiful period German architecture. Perhaps hit the beach (in summer) with a book or go for a swim (there are indoor pools for winter!), but make sure you're back at the hostel for a roof top BBQ!  We're sure that your time will fly by as you kick back and enjoy this cosmopolitan seaside city.

Day 3 - Qingdao to Qufu

After breakfast we make the trip to Qufu by direct intercity coach. This means heading south along the coastline, crossing the Mountains before arriving at this classical Chinese City. On arrival, check in to your hostel and head out to explore the town. Exploring one of the stunning old gardens & parks.  A great City for black & white photos as well.  Consider jumping into one of the many 3 wheel rickshaws that criss cross the town, which will only set you back  around 1 USD per trip!  The town has a good supermarket, where you can easily stock up before joining your fellow travellers for local BBQ style meal at one of the many outdoor restaurants.  The Hostel is also a place where you can kick back, play Wii or read a book (Poker anyone?) as there are no flash bars or trendy cafes in this classical City.

Day 4 - Qufu

Qufu was the hometown of the famous Confucius, however this city is a great city to experience "real China."   No gleaming skyscrapers, but plenty of good local restaurants and locals.  Exploring the City and the Confucius family mansion, Confucius Temple and then the Forest where you'll find the tomb of Confucius himself can easily take you a good part of the day.  A City is easily explored on foot and is perhaps the best way to do so. Tonight you can return to the Confucius Temple and witness a classical show including period dancing & singing.

Day 5 - Qufu
The the sadness of knowing your Dragon Bus experience is over can be tempered by the excitement of where to go next!  The Beijing to Shanghai Pass holders continue south to Xuzhou, and you're welcome to continue to Nanjing with us, with an extra train booking. One of the more popular options is to head down to Nanjing, before linking back up with the Nanjing to Shanghai Sector Pass.  However,  remember to pre book your extra nights with us!
