From the hotel pick-up, we travel west until we arrive at the center of Beijing. Here we hop off and stroll through Tianan'men Square - the largest open public square in the world. From there we head into the Forbidden City. This gated community was home to 24 Chinese Emperors for nearly 500 years until the early 20th Century. This massive complex of 980 surviving buildings and over 8000 rooms will give you an indication of Chinese power during Imperial Times.
After plenty of time to explore this fantastic historical site, exiting through the North end, we will travel to a quaint restaurant for a lunch of local Beijing food. After lunch, we travel to the Temple of Heaven, a very important site in Chinese Taoist culture, featuring some magnificent parkland and a number of historic temples.
The final stop of the day will be at the UNESCO-listed Summer Palace which dates back to 1750. The Summer Palace covers a total of 2.9 square kilometres, three quarters of which is taken up by Kunming Lake. Longevity Hill dominates the landscape overlooking the lake, with a variety of gardens, palaces and classical style architectural buildings also found throughout the site. At the end of the day, your bus will transfer you back to the China World Hotel.
