** This tour is available only to delegates and associates attending the World Youth Student Travel Conference (WYSTC) in Beijing in 2010 .
Today you will get to see, cook and taste the local Beijing way. From your hotel we travel underground, pop up in a lively local market, do some shopping, travel to the hutong of a beaming Beijing chef, and learn to cook Beijing style.
Your Dragon Bus Trip Leader will meet you in the lobby of the China World Hotel at 8 am. You will be led into the Beijing Subway System, where your trip leader will have your tickets waiting for you. Heading North East, you will exit the subway amongst Beijing's traditional hutongs where one of Beijing's brightest cooks will be waiting to take you to a local market.
Traditionally Beijingers' would make a daily trip to their local 'wet market' for their groceries. Wet markets carry all types of fruit, vegetables and meat of all kinds (don't be alarmed, dogs and cats are not eaten in Beijing!). Although massive hyper-marts have made large inroads into Chinese shopping habits, the wet markets still play a vital function in the lives of a typical Chinese family.
Our professional cook will take us through her local market, explaining what ingredients Chinese like to cook with. You will have the opportunity to see Chinese eating habits up close. You will spend some time buying all necessary items for today's cooking class, as well as anything else that may take your fancy
Once stocked with our ingredients, we take a short stroll back to our cook's kitchen. After introducing us to today's dishes, as well as rudimentary cooking techniques, you will move to your cooking station where you will begin to put into practice what you have just learnt.
After sharing lunch with the rest of your cooking crew, you will return to the China World Hotel in time to prepare for your evening's activities.
