14 Day Xi'an to Shanghai  USD$ 880.00
Warriors to Modern Neon Lit Buildings!
Xián is home to the amazing Terracotta Warriors, which we include, but the city is one of the best in China to explore on foot.  The city has one of the best examples of a City Wall in China, as well as the Drum and Bell Towers & the amazing Old Quarter & this is just the start! After Xian you head to more UNESCO sites in Luoyang, where you can explore the hand carved stone Buddhas and its mazing Grottos. The Shaolin Village, home of the Shaolin Monks, follows this where you can opt to experience your own Kungfu exhibition or maybe you would like to take your own class?

Zhengzhou can be a very enjoyable city, and has an amazing "Food Street."  Nanjing as the former Imperial Capital is next, where you have 3 days to fully explore all her historical sights, sounds and museums. Your final days explore the beautiful canal cities of Yangzhou and Suzhou, before arriving in the neon-lit streets of Shanghai, where you should of course visit the World Expo (we can arrange tickets!) during your 2 nights in Shanghai.

Greater outline:
Day 1 - Xian
Plan to spend a few extra days in Xian to ensure that you get the best out of the Ancient City.   You Could consider at least a further 2 days in Xian before joining us.  If you wish to book extra nights in the same Hostel, let us know as that can be organised. Many clients arrive under your their own terms, but one popular way is via the overnight train from Beijing or Shanghai (we can pre purchase your tickets as well).  The first day is yours to explore the City before joining your Tour Leader in the Hostel and then heading out for dinner and a Tour overview.
Day 2 - Terracotta Warriors of Xian
There are 1000's of currently unearthed Terracotta Warriors, and many more still to be uncovered!  That's right NO trip to Xian is complete without exploring this site. Perhaps like going to Beijing & not climbing the Great Wall! Previously you would have joined a charter tour, however feedback was that this meant the Warriors site was a little rushed. Therefore you'll join the Tour Leader in the morning where you'll head to the site on a local bus, which we've found is better in terms of managing how much time you can spend at the site. So be sure that you'll have more than enough time to fully explore, appreciate and enjoy this amazing site.  Returning to the Hostel, freshen up and consider heading to a performance showcasing the dancing, costumes & performances of the Tang Dynasty. If this is not for you,  head out to one of the local restaurants or bars, or just stay in at the hostel where movies often play, and its bar is always a good place to catch up with other travellers..
Day 3 - Xian & overnight in Luoyang
You should hit the streets early on the 3rd day, to continue exploring & experiencing the City. Don't miss the City Wall, Bell and Drum Towers and the city's old quarter including the Great Mosque. Around lunch make sure you're back at the Hostel as you'll transfer to the Railway station for Luoyang.   The section is completed by train as Bus travel would add an extra few hours to your travel.  On arrival at the Railway Station your Tour Leader will direct you to the shops where you can stock up on supplies for the trip. So with laptop, your book or ipod on hand sit back and watch the country side pass you by as we head east to Luoyang. Luoyang is another great city for Dragon Bus with a village like feel and plenty of great local Henan style restaurants.
Day 4 - Luoyang & Shaolin

Staying in Luoyang overnight means you can rise early if you wish to tour of the UNESCO listed Laoyang Grottos. (120 RMB entry).  We'll get you to the site, which is about 30 minutes from the Hostel and pick you up at the conclusion of exploring this great site.  Those not exploring Luoyang can explore the Luoyang, its parks and river before after lunch we head for Shaolin.  Once at Shaolin you enter the working village & temples that form the famous Shaolin village (100 RMB).  Perhaps consider climbing Shao Mountain (entry 40 RMB) or perhaps nominate to join a 4 hr Kung Fu course (300 RMB).  Once the dawn of evening arrives we'll head to Zhengzhou, where we'll arrive around dinner time, which is often at Zhengzhou's great "food street".

.

Day 5 - Zhengzhou City
Today you have a full day to explore this emerging City. The City houses the great and free Henan museum, which houses prehistoric artefacts including dinosaur bones and is well worth the visit and perhaps half a day. There are also several Temples and sites in and around Zhengzhou that can easily be explored by yourself on foot.  The City is also a good place to relax and catch up on emails or your trip blog. Perhaps if you explored one of the cities bars the night before, perhaps just sleep in and then head out.  We use a hotel, which centrally located and also has free internet in your room.  You can also organise to take part in an additional Tour of the Yellow River and its nearby attractions, so speak with your Tour Leader for information and prices.
Day 6 - Zhengzhou

An often overlooked City, but one with 3500 years of History!   This city is sometimes regarded as one of the more enjoyable  stops as it possesses a great food street and a couple of real good bars.  The City is changing and becoming more of a mix of modern and ancient China, topped off with plenty of friendly locals. Plenty of clients simply kick back and update their trip blog or emails from the Hotel.

Day 7 - Zhengzhou to Nanjing

Awake in the morning at your own pace as mid morning we'll head for Nanjing by train. Arriving in Nanjing in the late afternoon, you transfer to the Hostel. On arrival at the Hostel, kick back and relax or head to its cafe bar for a drink.  The night time is when the Chinese come out and Nanjing has some great places to explore various cuisines. A great gem that we've found is a restaurant specialising in Nepal & Tibet food, so if you can't make it to Tibet, don't worry you'll be able to get a taste of it at this restaurant.  There are numerous bars near the Hostel as well including one of the better "Expat" Bars where Dragon Bus are always welcome

Day 8 - Nanjing

The former capital of the Republic of China, Nanjing is still today now both a very powerful & modern day City, which is second only to Shanghai in terms of economic output.  Nanjing has numerous modern and historic sites, including a 600 year old city wall and is full of excellent museums. Dragon Bus provide plenty of options here for you three (3) days and as the City is a great walking city we offer downloadable PDF walking guides. Some consider hiring a boat on the lovely and centrally located Xuanwu Lake and paddling their cares away (perhaps not in winter!) Purple Mountain is also a must do as is the Sun Yat Sen Mausoleum which is set at the bottom of Purple Mountain.

Days 9 & 10 - Nanjing

While in Nanjing we also the chance learn how to Cook "Real Chinese Food" at a professional teaching school. The cooking course will show you how to make various Chinese dishes including handmade noodles and Ma Po Tufu. Best of all you get to try your (perhaps) handy work at the end of the course. In Nanjing you should also put aside an afternoon and join our "Amazing Dragon Race", but more on that can be found in the booking notes or by emailing us! Lastly you're spoiled for choice at night in Nanjing, including the Bar area called 1912, which is a great place to drink and dance the night away, any night of the week.
Day 11 - Yangzhou

Setting off after breakfast another ancient & beautiful town in Yangzhou, one that is also off the "tourist" trial. Yangzhou boats sites such as Slender Western Lake & Da Ming temple which is a Ming Dynasty tomb surrounded by some of the most beautiful Gardens and canals you will witness. Yangzhou also boats a worldwide famous rice dish, and has long been considered the best place in China to indulge in a foot massage, which of course we've found one where the groups normally head to after dinner.

Day 12 - Suzhou

A garden city laced with wonderful gardens and pagodas. Suzhou is famous for its beauty and its Classical Gardens. Suzhou has several UNESCO listed World Heritage sites, so the afternoon can be spent exploring them. The city is also an important location for a world famous silk industry as well, however, perhaps of equal importance is it's "Bar Street", one of the best in China. After settling into the hostel we'll make tracks for the Shi Qian Jie Lu to explore the bars and restaurants.

Day 13: Shanghai

Shanghai is the economic and commercial hub of China, but also a great place to finish!   Shanghai has wonderful nightlife and its blend of Eastern & Western cultures will actually amaze you.   However, after leaving Suzhou and as we're using our own fleet of buses we get to explore one of the best ancient, but not overrun with crowds, canal towns of the region.  Take a boat around its Venice like canals, and listen to your driver sing local songs to you.  After this its back to the bus, where we'll head straight to the centre of the neon lit city of Shanghai.   Obviously a sad time as it signals the end of your trip?.. so tonight party with your new found friends in this amazing city with the help of your guide.
Day 14 - Shanghai

Sadness often greets this day, howeverfinish off in style. Generally afree day to explore the many sights of this fantastic City or perhaps join a guided walking Tour of the French Concession and Shanghai Bazaar. Perhaps take a trip upto the world's highest observation deck at the Shanghai Financial Tower, only 474m above the ground below! Wander down the pedestrian Mall and shop around Nanjing Lu for some incredible shopping and bargains, or set offfor awalk along the Bund, or a boat ride on the Huangpu River. Check out our 24 hours in Shanghai on the News outline for some great ideas. Experience, real china with backpackers from all around the world with Dragon Bus China, no one comes close!
