14 Day Xi'an to Beijing  USD$ 850.00
Terracotta Warriors to the Great Wall!
Starting in Xian you will have the chance to fully explore the amazing Terracotta Warriors. Xián is an easy city to explore on foot, so join us to experience its City Wall, Drum and Bell Towers & the amazing Old Quarter.  After Xian we head for the UNESCO listed Luoyang Grottos & its hand carved stone Buddha's. Shaolin Village, home of the Shaolin Monks, is next so perhaps opt to experience your own Kungfu class or just watch an exhibition undertaken in the village.

Qufu, the hometown of Confucius follows before several days to relax and soak up the seaside city of Qingdao, famous for its beaches, former German Brewery and great seafood. Wave goodbye to Qingdao as it's on to Beijing, where your Pass will end, but not before you experience the famous Great Wall. Plan to stay a few extra days in Beijing, it has so much to see and do, all of which we can help you with!

Greater outline:
Days 1 - Xian
Plan to spend a few extra days in Xian to ensure that you get the best out of the ancient city. You could consider at least a further 2 days in Xian before joining us. If you wish to book extra nights in the same hostel, let us know as that can be organised. Many clients arrive under your their own terms, but one popular way is via the overnight train from Beijing or Shanghai (we can pre purchase your tickets as well). The first day is yours to explore the city before joining your Tour Leader in the hostel and then heading out for dinner and a Tour overview.
.
Day 2 - The Terracotta Warriors of Xian
There are 1000's of currently unearthed Terracotta Warriors, and many more still to be uncovered!  That's right NO trip to Xian is complete without exploring this site. Perhaps like going to Beijing & not climbing the Great Wall! Previously you would have joined a charter tour, however feedback was that this meant the Warriors site was a little rushed. Therefore you'll join the Tour Leader in the morning where you'll head to the site on a local bus, which we've found is better in terms of managing how much time you can spend at the site. So be sure that you'll have more than enough time to fully explore, appreciate and enjoy this amazing site.  Returning to the Hostel, freshen up and consider heading to a performance showcasing the dancing, costumes & performances of the Tang Dynasty. If this is not for you,  head out to one of the local restaurants or bars, or just stay in at the hostel where movies often play, and its bar is always a good place to catch up with other travellers.
Day 3 - Xian and Luoyang
You should hit the streets early on the 3rd day, to continue exploring & experiencing the City. Don't miss the City Wall, Bell and Drum Towers and the city's old quarter including the Great Mosque. Around lunch make sure you're back at the Hostel as you'll transfer to the Railway station for Luoyang.   The section is completed by train as Bus travel would add an extra few hours to your travel.  On arrival at the Railway Station your Tour Leader will direct you to the shops where you can stock up on supplies for the trip. So with laptop, your book or ipod on hand sit back and watch the country side pass you by as we head east to Luoyang. Luoyang is another great city for Dragon Bus with a village like feel and plenty of great local Henan style restaurants.
Day 4 - Luoyang & Shaolin

The UNESCO World Heritage Luoyang Grottos is a site where you should spend at least half within, if not more. Today the Tour Leader will assist your transfer to the site, or if you're with several friends it's easy to take a taxi with pre written directions directly to the entry gate. Arriving the night before means today and this site is not rushed. Clients pointed out that trying to get to the Luoyang Grottos using public transport would add several extra hours of hassle and around $100 USD to their travels, so now its a full day, which we're sure you will enjoy.  If you don't wish to explore the Grottos you'll have plenty to do in Luoyang itself, perhaps explore the City & its riverside parks.  The night oftne means resisting the temptation to return  to the great little restaurant we've found, and you're perhaps sampled the night before! But can you find another hidden gem?

Day 5 - Zhengzhou

Today you pretty much have a free day to explore this non tourist town. Zhengzhou has the great and free Henan Museum, which houses prehistoric artifacts including dinosaur bones. There are also several temples and sites in Zhengzhou that can easily be explored by yourself on foot. Zhengzhou is also a good city to relax, catch up on emails or your trip blog or if you explored one of the cities bars the night before, perhaps sleep in. The hotel we use in this city is centrally located and has free internet in your room. We offer optional Day Tours as well including trips to the Yellow River and its attractions, so speak with your Tour Leader for information and prices.

Day 6 - Zhengzhou to Qufu

Get up early and continue to explore Zhengzhou. After an early lunch we'll transfer to the train station for the trip to Qufu.  There is no train station in Qufu, so we'll transfer to the hostel in Qufu. Qufu is a classic Chinese city, famous for being the birthplace and hometown of Confucius. The hostel is the main stage tonight as although its not an overrun tourist city you won't find any bars or cafes here. However, there are plenty of great (and cheap) local restaurants. Also depending on timing this tour can often link up with other Passes and Sectors, which can result in a BBQ at the hostel if numbers are enough.

Day 7 - Qufu to Qingdao

After breakfast we make the trip to Qingdao, by direct intercity coach. After crossing the mountains you'll hit the coastline and trek north for the resort city of Qingdao.  On arrival you'll transfers to the hostel, which while waiting for check in head up it's amazing roof top bar.  Order a drink & enjoy the views across new and old sections of Qingdao. The city of Qingdao is renowned for many things, but its Beer (Tsingtao) and Beaches are two of the more well known.  A former German concession City, this seaside City also is well known for some amazing seafood restaurants. Tonight hit paved streets of the old city with your fellow travellers, consider exploring the nightlife or just combine the both!

Day 8 - Qingdao

This first day is yours to do with as you please. However, you must join the optional trip (260 RMB) to the famous Laoshan Mountain. Water from Laoshan is exclusively used to make China's most famous beer & its also a sacred Buddhist site.  Returning via the originally German built Brewery the tour ends enjoying a fresh beer! Qingdao is a great place to kick back, but you should also get out and explore it's long history. A great place to explore is "Old Qingdao", previously part of the former German concession, rich in history and German architecture. The hostel will tonight be the place to be for a roof top BBQ, after which some hit the town, and perhaps karoke!!

Days 9 & 10: Qingdao
Rise at will today as its a free day. One idea is to hit the beach (maybe in warmer months) with a book or go for a swim (there are indoor pools in winter!). Exploring Qingdao on foot is the only way to do it, but we also offer the chance for you to join a guided walking tour around the old part of Qingdao (see guide for more details). The former German concession area of Qingdao has many original period houses of this bygone era, and is a real look into days gone by. Again, Qingdao is famous for its seafood, so perhaps explore another of the restaurants we can recommend. Entering into the night the group often meets up in the bar of the hostel before deciding whether to stay in or hit the town again!
Day 11 - Qingdao to Beijing

Rising in the morning we transfer by bus to the railway station where we'll take the "bullet" train to Beijing. This train is the one that "backpackers" often complain about when their attempt to secure a ticket is met with a "ticket, no!" However, you don't have that problem while travelling with Dragon Bus. So wave goodbye to Qingdao as we hit speeds in excess of 250km/h on our way to Beijing. In the afternoon do as you please. Perhaps wonder around the alleyways near the hostel and explore the ancient Hutongs. Perhaps hit the hostel bar for a drink and some quiet time? Tonight the group normally goes out to one of the many local restaurants and then continues on to the nearby trendy bar area of Hou Hai or Lotus Lane.

Day 12 - Beijing

Rise for breakfast anytime you want today, as it's a free day in Beijing. Your options are so many and we've included a downloadable outline for you. The 798 Modern Art area needs to be explored to fully appreciate its emerging status as one of the worlds leading Art areas. Also the National Sports Stadium, otherwise known as the "Birds Nest", where you have the chance to take part in a "simulated" medal presentation at the site of the Beijing 2008 Olympics could be on your agenda? However, "It's Your Choice" but for those wishing to enjoy a night at the Beijing Opera or the amazing Acrobatics your western guides will simply organise this. Perhaps just kick back and relax with a DVD in the hostel or on your laptop.

Day 13 - Beijing & Great Wall
An early start awaits, but so does the Great Wall, the quintessential image of China. Today we'll explore one of the more modern and intact sections before heading back to Beijing. On return we'll head to a Pharmacy that was established to serve the Royal Court of the Qing Dynasty in the 16th Century, and get an overview of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Returning to the hostel many plan their night ahead! Perhaps you may wish to dine like an Emperor with your new friends, and as there are many great places to explore, deciding which one is the hardest choice. After dinner, hit one of the many bars of this modern metropolis.
Day 14 - Beijing

Awaking to the sadness of knowing your Dragon Bus experience is over can be tempered by getting out and further exploring this majestic former imperial, but now very modern city. Perhaps head to where the Qing Emperor of China played tennis, the Forbidden City. Fly a kite in Tiananmen Square and experience the tastes, sounds and nightlife of Beijing. Your welcome to continue the party with the rest of your worldwide travellers at the hostel, but make sure you pre book your extra nights!
